There has been a big debate about which Marvel heroes will be facing off in Captain America: Civil War. When we got the official team posters for the film, we thought that was it. Could Mark Ruffalo be in Civil War in a small role as Bruce Banner or the Hulk?
We know that the Hulk will be in Thor: Ragnarök, and Avengers: Infinity War. Mark Ruffalo was spotted on set during the filming, but until now, everyone has been adamantly denying any appearance from him in Civil War.
The last we saw of the Hulk was in Avengers: Age of Ultron, when he stole a quinjet and appeared to leave the planet. Fans were in a frenzy following this scene, with hopes that Marvel would soon be giving us a live action version of the Planet Hulk storyline.
This past week, during an interview on BBC Radio 1’s Movie’s With Ali Plumb podcast, Anthony Mackie may have spoiled a big surprise for Civil War. During the interview he said:
“Having seen the movie, it’s Marvel’s best movie so far. And I’m being honest – if a Marvel movie sucks, a movie in the Marvel universe, I’ll tell you it sucked. (Captain America:) The Winter Soldier and (the first) Iron Man are probably Marvel’s two best movies, and I feel like (Civil War) beats both of those movies. It’s really, really good. It’s because it’s more of an acting movie than an action movie. I feel like the story is very concise and interesting, and you get to see Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo and everybody just do really, really good ACTING. And then there’s action in it. I think it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for Best Picture.”
There has been no other word from Marvel or Anthony Mackie about this. It has yet to be confirmed whether Bruce Banner or the Hulk will be officially appearing in Civil War. If he does show up, it will make fans pretty happy, because the big green mean machine is well-loved. With there not being any Hulk movie in the near future, fans will just have to settle for any film that he appears in.
So far Mackie or Marvel haven’t added anything further, and are unlikely to at this point as this is neither a full-on confirmation or denial. “Thor: Ragnarök” is said to revolve around Hulk and Thor on a distant planet. How Hulk gets there following his last appearance vanishing with a Quinjet at the end of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is anyone’s guess at this point.
Captain America: Civil War will hit theaters on May 6th.
