The Television Academy announced the nominations for the 72nd Emmy Awards airing on September 20. Jimmy Kimmel hosts the ceremony set to air on ABC.
The Emmy Award will be the first Awards ceremony to happen during the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the particulars are still up in the air, but according to Kimmel:
“I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it.”
HBO’s Watchmen landed the most Emmy nominations with 26, followed by Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (20), Ozark and Succession with (18), and The Mandalorian, SNL, and Schitt’s Creek (15).
A large number of other shows nabbed five or more nominations, including Westworld, Stranger Things, The Crown, Better Call Saul, and Star Trek Picard.
In a surprise twist, Netflix nabbed the most Emmy nominations with 160, HBO grabbed 107, and NBC snuck into third with 47. The ceremony marks the second major restart (after sports) to American normalcy.
