The first trailer for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife dropped earlier today and it looks fabulous.
The film serves as a direct sequel to the original two Ghostbusters films, ignoring the events of the 2016 all female-led movie.
Check out the first full-length trailer below:
Afterlife focuses on a small family, a single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two children: a science nut daughter (Mckenna Grace) and her mechanically-inclined son (Finn Wolfhard).
Paul Rudd stars as the kid’s school teacher Mr. Grooberson. He was in New York City during the events of the first film. Afterlife references the events of the first film as the “Manhattan Crossrip.”
The family moves to rural Oklahoma after inheriting property from Coon’s estranged father. As the family starts to uncover hidden treasures around the house, they begin to realize that grandpa was one of the original Ghostbusters.
The kids soon realize that they must take over the family business when a lurking ghastly threat begins to terrorize the town. The Afterlife trailer has plenty of easter eggs for fans of the original films. It also adds deeper Ghostbusters references (other than film references) as well.
Original surviving cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts all return for the sequel.
