In the wake of Avengers: Endgame it’s a safe bet to say that the Black Widow movie’s a prequel. Recent reports indicate that the film actually takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

In the film, Natasha Romanoff returns to Russia and reunites with family and friends from her past. The biggest character coming to the film is her sister Yelena portrayed on-screen by actress Florence Pugh.

Her appearance ignited a speculation storm wondering if the film will portray Natasha passing down the Black Widow title to Yelena moving past the events of Endgame.

While out doing the press rounds for Little Women, Pugh was asked by Uproxx about the rumors of her character becoming the next Black Widow:

“No, I actually will say when we were making it, it wasn’t anything like that at all. And I am saying it very honestly, it certainly didn’t feel like a passing of the torch kind of film when we were making it.

I think the direction and the feeling and the vibe behind it was genuinely just trying to make this complicated and painful story. And do it justice because a lot of fans have been waiting for her film.

And also a lot of people I think will appreciate this story. Cate’s [Shoreland, director] done an amazing job on showing these two girls and, I suppose, facing their history and facing their pain.

The direction was more on that front. But I’m happy that people have appreciated the trailer and I’m looking forward to watching it.”
