This might come as a shock to some gamers, but it appears that the Mass Effect franchise is finished. In a recent update on BioWare’s site, the studio announced that the latest patch for Mass Effect: Andromeda (1.10) is the last update for the game. This means that the developer is abandoning the troubled game less than 6 months after its launch.
According to the announcement, “there are no planned future patches for single-player or in-game story content.” The game released to disappointing numbers and came with a plethora of in-game issues. Reviews destroyed the game upon launch. During development, the game saw many issues, and was scrapped completely 18 months from launch. The developer put together a game that was rife with glitches and bugs that affected playability and enjoyment.
There really isn’t much left for fans to hold on to. Without any more patches coming, fans are getting left out in the cold. The story does have potential, and unfortunately it is one that will no loner be explored. There will most-likely not be a sequel to Andromeda, so it’s a safe bet that the franchise is officially dead.
So, what is next for BioWare? Will the studio attempt to salvage the franchise, or is Mass Effect truly over? The franchise’s original trilogy was solid, and a classic game in most people’s eyes. With all of the focus on Anthem at the moment, there are no plans for further Mass Effect games. It is hard to believe that the entire ME franchise would be abandoned. It is more-than-likely just put on the shelf for a few years. The game was once a ‘game of the year’ winner, so it wouldn’t be the smartest idea to completely scrap the franchise.
Mass Effect: Andromeda isn’t a bad game, and after the patches, it has become a lot more playable than it was on launch day.
