The upcoming DC movie Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) arrives in theatres next month. Its first trailer was released in October and since then fans have wondered when another would be released.
Fret not, because the waiting is over! Warner Brothers have released the latest trailer for Birds of Prey and it features some very exciting comic accurate depictions!
Take a look for yourself below:
The trailer begins with a voice-over from Harley Quinn catching the audience up to speed. Splitting up from the Joker, and destroying Ace Chemicals, she’s sending the criminal element a message. She’s also spending her time wallowing in self-pity with ice cream.
To be fair to her, she is out of a longterm abusive relationship with the craziest clown in existence. It doesn’t seem like Harley stays down for long as she decides to play with people and go back to her old ways without someone dragging her down.
She introduces us to the rest of the Birds of Prey crew. The one who steals from Sionis, the one who betrays him, the one who kills his best friend and the one who is crazy enough to build a case against him. They are Cassandra Cain, Dinah Lance, Helena Bertinelli, and Renee Montoya.
The five will work together to bring down the crime lord, Roman Sionis, also known as the Black Mask. For fans who have wondered if we’ll see him in a real black mask, the movie answers that question and it looks beautiful!
Black Canary also exhibits her cry in the trailer, putting any fears to rest if she’d use it. It looks like Cathy Yan and Christina Hodson are treating the Canary with the respect she deserves, finally!
There are other moments ripped from the source material: Harley is part of a roller derby team and she has a pet Hyena. However, this time she “named him Bruce after that hunky Wayne guy.” So, Harley, you named your Hyena after the man who puts you in prison… I’d give anything to see her realize that.
Birds of Prey is looking to be a fun movie with emotive moments between the cast. With the surge in female-led Comic Book movies recently, it’s a great time to be a fan of them. Hopefully, if all goes well this gives Warner Brothers the confidence to actually do Batgirl, Supergirl, Gotham City Sirens and Birds of Prey sequels.
Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) arrives in theatres on February 7, 2020.
