Loki‘s finale episode recently aired, bringing an end to the six-episode series on Disney+. It follows Wandavision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier which were also Disney+ original series.
The series centres around Tom Hiddleston’s Loki escaping the Battle of New York after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
He’s introduced to Time Variance Authority, the keepers of time who prune anyone who strays from the ‘sacred timeline’. The throughline saw Loki team-up with a female version of himself, known as Sylvie, who wanted to bring the TVA down.
The final episode’s twist reveals a Kang variant, He Who Remains, is behind the TVA. His goal is to keep the ‘sacred timeline’ intact to stop the more ruthless versions of himself. He also confesses the Kang variants waged a multiversal war, also known as Secret Wars.
Sylvie kills him, unleashing the multiverse and the evil versions of Nathaniel Richards, aka Kang.
Audiences were left shocked when Loki ended on a cliffhanger. Not only that, but the series’ finish also shows Kang in control of the TVA.
Loki‘s ending is abrupt. It leaves open new possibilities, and fans questioned what it means for the rest of MCU and Loki’s future. Since Wandavision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier aren’t getting a second season, it seemed Loki would follow suit.
Rather than showing a new scene, Loki uses the credits to confirm Hiddleston and, hopefully, Sophia Di Martino among others will return in Loki season 2.
When we’ll see the second season is currently a mystery, but hopefully, it’ll be before the end of next year.
Only time will tell.
While Loki is finished, Black Widow is in theatres and streaming on Disney+ premier.
