Christopher Smith revives his 2004 horror Creep with a reboot titled The Creep. Announced on May 6, 2025, it promises fresh scares. Smith directs and writes. Filming starts this fall in the UK. The reboot targets a new generation with modern terror.

The original Creep starred Franka Potente as Kate. She was trapped in Charing Cross station. A cannibalistic killer, Craig, hunted her. Shot on a low budget, it used Aldwych and Down Street stations. Critics gave it 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its banned poster stirred controversy. London Underground later approved it.

The Creep stars Jasmine Jobson from Top Boy. She plays a struggling artist and drug runner. Andy Nyman, from Wicked, is a captive who knows the killer—rapper Aitch debuts as a drill rapper. Smith’s script keeps the horror. It adds humor and action. “I’ve kept the primal fear,” Smith said. “It’ll shock intelligently.” He goes on to say:

“I’ve always felt there was unfinished business. While I’ve always loved the purity of what I achieved in my first film… I know there’s a scarier, more evolved film still inside me.

I’ve spent years searching for a story that captures that same raw dread, but nothing has matched the feeling of being lost underground in a city everyone loves. Just below our feet lies a labyrinth steeped in history – a nightmare hidden beneath the surface.

It taps into that same primal fear a child feels when they look under the bed before going to sleep Now I want to revisit Creep not only as an experienced filmmaker and writer, but also as someone who has lived in London for over 30 years.

I’ve worked passionately on the script to retain the dread of the original, while enhancing the characters, deepening the humor, and amplifying the action. My goal is to create a film that not only builds on the original but surprises and shocks—intelligently—with a modern twist for a new Gen Z audience.”

Danny Cohen returns as cinematographer. John Frankish designs the eerie sets. Producers Julie Baines and Jason Newmark lead the project. Dan Films and Newscope Films back it. The reboot echoes An American Werewolf in London. It aims to terrify with claustrophobia.

Fans on X are thrilled. They praise Jobson’s casting. Aitch’s debut excites them. The original, on Prime Video, still shocks. Its ending, with Kate mistaken for a beggar, haunts viewers. The Creep builds on this. Smith makes the Tube terrifying again.
