From the beginning stages of the Marvel and Sony deal that brought Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to the MCU, both studios stated that Spidey would not show up in Sony’s greater Spider-Man Cinematic Universe. On numerous occasions, Marvel says that Holland will only be in the solo Spidey films, regardless of Sony slating a possible Sinister Six film and a stand-alone Venom film. Could both studios just be blowing smoke as to Tom Holland’s potential involvement in Venom?
Up until now, it appeared that Venom will not tie back into the MCU or Spidey. It would be a smart move, being that Venom is set to be R-rated. Starring Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams, it would be safe to say that Marvel would want to keep their youngest superhero away from anything R-rated.
In a recent claim by documentary director Jon Schnepp (The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?) on Collider’s Movie Talk, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in Venom:
“Spider-Man is going to be in Venom. For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man – and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – is going to be in Venom.”
It’s hard to see Marvel letting one of their characters in a film that they have nothing to do with. Marvel thrives in secrecy, but they also keep absolute control of their universe and the characters in it. It is hard to see Marvel allowing the Symboite to be in the MCU. The film stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate, Riz Ahmed, and Michelle Lee.
