With the recent departure of director Scott Derrickson from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel’s reportedly in talks with Sam Raimi to take over directing duties.
A recent report indicates that Derrickson isn’t the only Strange alumni not returning for the sequel.
Variety also reported that Rachel McAdams isn’t returning for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. McAdams was Dr. Christine Palmer in the first film. An ex-love interest and colleague of Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
She saw Strange at his worst and helped him become his best.
Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo and Benedict Wong’s Wong both return for Multiverse of Madness. Marvel’s surrounding Strange with more cosmic/magic-users as well, so this might explain McAdams’s departure from the franchise.
In the wake of Scott Derrickson’s departure, Marvel needs to find a director fast. There are murmurs around Hollywood that Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) might be their guy.
Raimi’s the perfect director for the job, in that Strange has always been one of his favorite Marvel characters.
Rumors also indicate that several cameos might happen during the Multiverse of Madness, with the Scarlett Witch already confirmed.
The rumored characters appearing in Doctor Strange 2 are Mordo, America Chavez, Loki, Nightmare, Brother Voodoo, Clea, and a number of alternate versions of established Marvel characters.
