Last week, news came that Ewan McGregor confirmed he is reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for an untitled live-action Disney+ series. Now comes the official announcement at this weekend’s D23 Expo.
Lucasfilm producer Kathleen Kennedy and McGregor both appeared at D23 in Anaheim over the weekend. Kennedy said: “We have all the scripts written. We’re ready to start shooting next year.” This is great news for Star Wars fans.
Rumors previously speculated that McGregor would return to Star Wars with a stand-alone film, but plans were halted after the dismal box office numbers from Solo.
The only details about the series is that it takes place during Solo: A Star Wars Story, a few years after the events of the prequels. Obi-Wan is the third official Star Wars live-action television show coming to Disney+, which looks to launch with one hell of a lineup.
Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian made a big splash this weekend at D23. Not much was said about the Cassian Andor series. Also announced at the Expo, was the long-awaited return of Star Wars: The Clone Wars with a seventh season.
Disney+ is the official home of all Star Wars films.
