Taika Waititi In Talks to Star in Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

Director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) already has a tight schedule for the foreseeable future. A new report says that Waititi is in talks to star in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Normally, when this happens, projects will start to eventually drop off.

The wildcard here is that Waititi is eccentric enough to actually pull it all off.

Waititi has Jojo Rabbit hitting theaters on October, then moving on to Next Goal Wins in the Fall. He will also start preparations for Thor: Love and Thunder, which shoots in early 2020.

According to a new report from Deadline, Waititi is also in negotiations to star in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad for Warner Brothers. The report doesn’t specify what role the Kiwi director’s up for. With a table read scheduled for September 11, (if Waititi comes onboard) news should come soon.

Waititi joins an already heavy-hitting cast, including Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Steve Agee (King Shark), Idris Elba, Flula Borg, and Nathan Fillion.
