A few weeks ago the first official trailer for the upcoming Power Rangers movie dropped, and the first thing that stood out was just how dark the film will be. This is not the campy television show that we are used to. This movie will be dark, and will take the franchise in a completely new direction. We already know that Rita Repulsa will be the main villain in the film, played by Elizabeth Banks. Will another major villain join the film too?
According to a report by The Wrap, Lord Zedd will also be in the film. His story is a little more in-depth than that of the throw away character from the television show. His story will link to future versions of the Rangers themselves. According to the leak, Rita is seeking the Zeo Crystal, a crystal that will allow the Rangers to become the Zeo Rangers. She is charged with this mission by Lord Zedd, who was disfigured in a earlier attempt to snag the crystal.
Rita’s main quest may be the crystal, but the report goes on to confirm early rumors that Repulsa was seeking gold on Earth. She is attempting to resurrect her favorite Henchman Goldar who gets “vaporized into a cloud of microscopic gold particles” in the opening scene of the film. This scene supposedly takes place centuries in the past, and lines up perfectly with early reports about the plot of the film.
Does this mean that we will see Lord Zedd in this film in a large role? Probably not. If he appears at all, it will most likely be a very small role or in silhouette.
