The Magic Order Vol 4 #4 is the latest issue in the Image comic series created by Mark Millar and Olivier Coipel. The spellbinding art for volume 4 comes from Dike Ruan. If you’ve missed the other three volumes, they’re available to purchase online, but more importantly, from your local comic book store. You can find my reviews for the third volume here.
The Magic Order revolves around a group of magic wielders who protect the world from dangerous threats. It also doesn’t shy away from tackling heavy subjects. The story centres around the family who leads The Magic Order – the Moonstones. In particular, it’s the rebel daughter Cordelia whose usually the focus.
The previous issue ends with Edgar vowing to get revenge on Madame Albany.
The Magic Order Vol 4 #4 slightly delves into the new Magic Order. Unlike the one before, these members don’t care about their job as much. They also use their magic for personal gain. Meanwhile, Cordelia, Francis and Ubris are in the clutches of the Wizard King. Unfortunately, the Wizard King is Cordelia’s relation and he’s sadistic and powerful.
A specific moment reminded me of Hellraiser, which only increased my enjoyment of the issue. Week after week The Magic Order continues to be my favorite Millarworld series. They’re all great but Cordelia Moonstone has a special place in my heart. The issue has more twists and turns than the rollercoaster Steel Vengeance. By the time the issue ends, you’ll want more.
Dike Ruan’s art is out of this world. The attention to detail during the arena fights is incredible. Not just that but as you can see above, his work on animals/creatures is eye-popping. Just wait until you see what else he’s got in store for this issue. You haven’t seen the best page yet.
