Night Club #2 is the next release from Millarworld. Mark Millar writes the series while Juanan Ramírez provides the art. It tells the story of Danny Garcia (a teenager) who becomes a vampire and uses his abilities to be a superhero and to try and become a viral sensation online.
However, something darker appears to be afoot.
In the previous issue, we were introduced to a lot of new characters, as well as a few plotlines. The main plot is about a vampire putting together a team of vampires to fight something. Meanwhile, Danny and his friends are coping with problems at school. The worst of it is a bully who shows the trio up in front of their crushes. We last saw Danny when he got himself a costume to protect his identity and shield his body from the sun.
So, what happened next?
Night Club #2 is another set-up issue. Where the first issue was about Danny getting his abilities, this is about his friends. Danny’s the one doing the transformations this time. However, it’s not plain sailing. Not everyone wants to be a vampire and might need some talking around. This is what most of the issue revolves around. It’s the idea of what they could lose by becoming a vampire.
Although, they realise there are also advantages to it. The series is progressing at a decent pace. It makes sense for the core story to not be fully there just yet. After all, we’ve only spent one issue with these characters and it’s better to know them first before we go further. I’m intrigued to see where the series goes next.
It’s definitely got the building blocks to be another winner for Millarworld.
There isn’t much more I can say about Juanan Ramírez’s art than what I said in my previous review. He continues to impress and I can’t get enough of his interpretation of a vampire biting. It’s so electric and jumps off of the page. As you can see from the snippets above, the background is mostly darker colours to make the red of the vampire pop.
I love it.
You’ll be able to experience this for yourself very soon.
