The Alien prequel films, Prometheus and Covenant are far from good films. Both movies have a decent cult following, but convoluted plots, nonsensical reasoning and a number of other problems plague the franchise. Now, director Ridley Scott wants to make a third prequel film.
The films tried to intertwine creationism into a franchise that didn’t need it. Not only that, but Covenant shoehorned Xenomorphs into the film despite Scott announcing that the film wouldn’t feature the creatures. Even Xenomorphs couldn’t save the movie.
Now Ridley Scott wants to make a third prequel film, and I’m left asking, “Why?”
In a recent sit down with the LA Times, Ridley Scott says he’s considering making a third prequel film which would explain the origins of the ghost ship full of Xenomorph eggs on LV-426:
I still think there’s a lot of mileage in Alien, but I think you’ll have to now re-evolve.
What I always thought when I was making the first one [was] why would a creature like this be made and why was it traveling in what I always thought was a kind of war-craft, which was carrying a cargo of these eggs.
What was the purpose of the vehicle and what was the purpose of the eggs? That’s the thing to question — who, why, and for what purpose is the next idea, I think.
I never once wondered why the ship was there in Alien. The mystery is part of the allure, and Ridley is determined to answer every little question mark in the franchise.
Instead of answering questions Scott thinks we all have, maybe he should just focus on making good Alien films that expand on the franchise rather than cloud it up. Don’t get me wrong, I want more Alien films, but really just want good ones.
