In the wake of a few teaser clips for this year’s Arrowverse crossover event Elseworlds, Ruby Rose talks about the motivations of her character Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman. It’s the first time that Batwoman will grace any screen, big or small.

During the events of Elseworlds, The Flash (Grant Gustin), Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) all team up and head to Gotham City. In Gotham, the heroes encounter Rose as Batwoman, Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, but sadly no Batman.

The heroes go to Arkham Asylum to meet up with Doctor John Deegan (Jeremy Davies). Batwoman will save them from two escaping inmates in true Caped Crusader fashion.

According to Rose, Batwoman is not welcoming of new heroes to her city. She tells EW:

“Kate does not want to deal with this. She has a whole other agenda, a whole other life that she’s trying to sort out right now, and these frigging superheroes come in and they’re a mess, and they need her help.”

Elseworlds is a soft introduction for Batwoman in the Arrowverse. Rose went on to say that being Batwoman is surreal:

“It’s a strange feeling to put on a suit like this that has been custom made for you, knowing that it’s going to transform you into a character that does amazing things. You feel very empowered and it just instantly changes everything you feel in that moment.”

Producer Marc Guggenheim adds a few details about Batwoman’s character:

“She’s a lot like Batman in the sense that she’s kind of a dick. Ruby’s amazing. She brings such a different color and tone. She will interact with our heroes both as Batwoman and as Kate Kane, so you’ll see both sides of that character and that performance.”

Don’t think that Kate Kane is a dark character. Kane and Batwoman are completely different according to Rose:

“[Kate] is more fun because she’s a billionaire, she has ladies that love her. I think, for the most part, crossover-wise, she’s swaggy. She always knew who she was, but she’s really coming into knowing who she is in the crossover, and with Batwoman as well. It’s not the first time she’s put on the suit.”

The Elseworlds crossover event starts on Sunday, December 9 and runs for three consecutive nights.
