I am convinced Deadpool is one of the hottest franchises in Hollywood now. His popularity even rivals The Avengers. When Ryan Reynolds teased that Deadpool 2 would feature fan-favorite X-Men character Cable, the internet broke. There is a new rumor leaked out by Reynolds himself, that has people talking. What if Deadpool could get Hugh Jackman to put on Wolverine’s claws one last time?
This would be a feat, and one film that the fans would flock to theaters to see. There is one snag to this though. Where in the schedule would Deadpool be able to add another team-up film? His schedule is already pretty full for the foreseeable future. In a recent interview with The Playlist, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick sound optimistic about this new team-up idea. According to Wernick:
We’ve come a long way from 2009, when we couldn’t get the movie off the ground ’til now. And to have [this team-up]? It would be amazing to have Hugh resurrect Wolverine in the Deadpool universe, and again, Ryan’s making a hard push to make that happen, and hopefully the public gets behind it and we can all convince Hugh to put the claws on one more time.
Reese talked about the shuffling that would definitely have to happen if Hugh agreed to do the team-up film:
Yeah, [a crossover] would, if you think about it. If you’re looking at Deadpool 2, if you’re looking at X-Force, if you’re looking at Deadpool 3, there’s not necessarily room for [another] team-up movie. I think it does create real scheduling and universe issues and something that could be ironed out, but it would need to be ironed out. I don’t think any of us operated under the assumption that it would be even possible to do a Deadpool/Wolverine thing, so we just haven’t planned for it, it’s still not in the plan, but if it were to happen, it would require a hard look at the overall architecture of our storylines.
Could this be a film that we might eventually see? It all depends on whether Jackman can be convinced to play the character again, because he has hung up the claws for good. It is a role that he trains hard for, and has previously stated that he is getting too old for the role.
Would you go see a Wolverine/Deadpool movie?
