‘Scream’ 6 Officially Greenlit – Filmmakers Returning

Scream is going through a renaissance thanks to the recent success of the fifth movie in the franchise directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet with a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. After only releasing on January 14, the movie’s made over $100 million at the box office. Critically it’s also fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and a new favorite among fans of the franchise.

That’s why it’s exciting Spyglass and Paramount are greenlighting the sixth movie. That’s right, Scream is the new Halloween and hopefully, its sequel will do better than Halloween Kills. It’s unclear who will return from the cast, including Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox.

However, the directors and writers are definitely returning. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the directors mentioned the writers already have an idea:

We know that Guy and Jamie have a really great idea for where this saga goes, and I can say that we had such an amazing time making this one. From start to finish, it was just like a dream come true, and if they’d have us back, we’d do it in a heartbeat.”

In a press release, the directors said “Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators—and in the lineage, Wes and Kevin so expertly built—has been the thrill of a lifetime and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life.”

The writers added “Is this real life? Getting to collaborate once again with our friends on the next installment of the Scream story is more than we could have hoped for. We are overwhelmed that we get to continue to play in the sandbox that Kevin and Wes created. It is, as Ghostface would say, an honor.”
