Scream VI is scheduled to release next year. We started this year with Scream releasing on the big screen. Now that we’ve reached the end of 2022, it turns out we’re ending the year with the franchise too. However, it isn’t only Scream that’s enjoying bookending the year. Jenna Ortega started 2022 with Scream and X while she ends it with Wednesday (one of Netflix’s biggest shows) and this teaser.
The fifth entry in the Scream franchise came out in theatres back in January. It introduced us to the new characters, as well as bringing back some old ones. Be aware there will be major spoilers for the previous Scream. If you don’t want to know what happens in it, look away now.
We met Samantha and Tara Carpenter, two sisters who are haunted by the mistakes of their parents. Unfortunately for one of them, their parent is also a bloodthirsty killer. If that’s not bad enough, their parent is actually one of the first killers in the franchise. When we last saw them, they were deciding to start their lives anew.
According to the new teaser that just dropped, that’s exactly what they did. Check it out below:
Yes, it looks like Scream is taking a leaf out of another franchise’s book. Ghostface is taking Manhattan… or at least New York. We’re unsure what boroughs of New York he’ll terrorise. However, let’s hope it’s better than the time Jason Voorhees went there. The teaser doesn’t tell us much about the story. We know the surviving cast from the previous entry is back. They’re on the train being hounded by someone in a Ghostface costume.
With the way it ends, it looks like Mindy Meeks-Martin is in trouble. Although given this is a teaser and they wouldn’t want to spoil such a big death, there’s a high chance something happens. Whether she’s saved/gets out of the grasp or it turns out to be a practical joke is anyone’s guess for now. With the leaks that are sadly coming out, Paramount will want to do everything in its power to keep what they can under wraps.
Unfortunately, this also happened with the last Scream movie.
We see Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding in the teaser. They respectively portrayed Samantha, Tara, Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin. Arrow and She-Hulk fans will recognise the man that’s with them. Yes, that’s Prometheus and Pug. Josh Segarra is in this one. Sadly, there’s no official information on who he’s playing but I’m sure we’ll find that out soon. After all, there’s only four months until the movie is out.
Eagle-eye Horror fans will notice a lot of easter eggs during the train sequence. For example, someone is dressing up as Grace from Ready or Not. This is a multi-layered easter egg as the movie’s directed by the same directors behind Scream and Scream VI. Furthermore, Samara Weaving (who plays Grace) is going to be in Scream VI.
While the teaser doesn’t show much, it’s making me realise one thing – it’s a good time to be a Scream fan. Hopefully, there’ll be a full trailer soon. When there is, I hope it gives us the first official look at the return of Kirby.
