Avengers: Endgame is out finally. If you were not of the lucky few that got a ticket for the film on opening night, there should be plenty of screens showing the movie throughout the weekend.
The next film in the Marvel chute is Spider-Man: Far From Home in two months. It is the last movie in Phase 3 according to Kevin Feige. Marvel’s Phase 4 film slate will come shortly.
In Spider-Man: Far From Home Peter Parker and his classmates head to Europe for a field trip. During the trip Nick Fury introduces Parker to Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal) a.k.a. Mysterio, an iconic Spider-Man villain. It appears as though the villain starts out as an ally for the Web-Slinger.
In an interview with EW, director Jon Watts says stat Peter and Mystery have an interesting relationship in the film:
If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous film, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle.”
According to Watts Spider-Man: Far From Home is less John Hughes High School Drama, and more Euro-centric super spy movie:
“We were doing a bunch of shots that looked like they were out of The Bourne Identity or some exciting European action-travel movie.”
This genre direction is apparent in Spidey’s new all-black spy suit. Fury also gives Peter a new black-and-red suit in the film as well. How the events of Avengers: Endgame will shape the new MCU is unknown, but Spider-Man: Far From Home is the first taste of this brave new MCU.
