Spoiler- Filled Review: ‘Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey’

Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, Warner Brothers

My one major complaint about the movie is the death of Roman Sionis. In the source material, the Black Mask is a sadistic and cruel man with a lot of potential. That potential is no more once he explodes.

It’s a shame his death makes it more difficult to see his return, especially as it’s Ewan McGregor portraying him.

Cassandra Cain is great in Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, but she’s not Cassandra Cain. I have no problem with the acting or even the movie’s version, but there’s a specific voice, or lack of, in the source material missing.

Cassie Cain is the greatest injustice in the movie for that reason. Still, there’s hope a sequel would rectify that and use this version as a stepping stone.

Mary Elizabeth-Winstead’s Helena Bertinelli is great but she’s underused. She’s hardly in the movie but when she is, she steals the scenes. Due to this, it’s sad Helena isn’t used more.

There is definitely room for her to grow more within the narrative. It’s what I hope they remedy in the future as she deserves more.

All in all, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey is another win for Warner Brothers and DC. A sequel would open up more opportunities for Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to breathe without Harley Quinn. Hopefully, they get that chance in the future and we see more of them.
