Review – Millarworld’s ‘Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem #6’

Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem #6 is the latest work from Millarworld. Mark Millar’s in charge of the script as always while Matthew Dow Smith provides the art. Spoilers for issue 5 will be in this review but I’ll keep what happens in issue 6 under the lid. The previous issue reveals the truth about the visitors from Palorax who want Earth for themselves. With their planet in the sights of something terrible, they plan to get rid of Earth’s protectors and make Earth their home.

This is where Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem #6 opens. Our heroes are at war with the Paloraxians while relationships are tested. In true Mark Millar fashion, don’t expect anything to be straightforward.

The writing for this issue is nothing short of incredible. That’s not to say the other issues are weaker. On the contrary, this is merely better due to its revelations and non-stop action. Mark Millar must be one of the busiest people in the comic book world with three comics releasing around the same time. And yet, they don’t overlap or feel the same. It’s a testament to his writing he creates these unique characters and constantly delivers.

Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem #6 involves non-stop action that culminates in a moment to leave you in shock. The action is intercut with several surprises, heartfelt moments and irreverent dialogue. Unfortunately, this is also the final issue of volume five. Readers will have to wait until Spring 2022 to see what happens next.

This is one you don’t want to miss!

Matthew Dow Smith brings his a-game with Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem #6’s art once again. In terms of Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem this is his best work yet. Unlike the previous issue, there aren’t many quiet moments. This comes across in Smith’s work, especially during the fights. There’s one panel in particular that feels like a callback to a previous issue.

The villains are flying away from a house. While the house itself is highly detailed and is lit through natural lighting, the villains are shrouded in darkness. The juxtaposition highlights the difference between the wholesome suburban life and the evil alien race bent on destruction.
