‘The Flash’ Season 3 Changes, Relationships, and Villains

The Flash, CW Network

The Flash is easily one of the best superhero films on the CW Network, and one of my favorite television shows now. It can be a little goofy at times, but for the most part, completely captures the essence of what I think a  superhero show should be like on television. As season 2 of The Flash came to a close, there was a lot of questions left on the table.

In the season finale, Barry decides to do the very thing he has wanted to do for most of the show, go back and save his mother from dying at the hands of the Reverse Flash.  In doing this he has created a time paradox of sorts, and has changed everything. Can he get things back to the way that they were and still save his mom, or is he going to have to face the music and allow her to die?

Two of the show’s producers, Aaron and Todd Helbing spoke to TV Line about season 3 of The Flash, and what we can expect to see from the two new villains in the series, Savitar and Dr. Alchemy. He talks about how Season 3 will focus on psychological conflict more than the earlier seasons have:

“[We’re] trying to have the powers that they both possess play off of each other. It’s not just, ‘Oh, I have to catch this guy and take him down.’ It’s like, ‘Crap, now there’s this other guy, Dr. Alchemy,’ who has these transmutation qualities [via] this Philosopher’s Stone. You start to learn what he does with this stuff and how the both of them are coexisting.”

Season 3 of The Flash will focus on the Flashpoint comic storyline, and will stray a bit from the darkness of the second season. The series will return to the way that it was during the first season, with more of a lighter tone. Tom Felton (Harry Potter) spoke about his role and how he will interact with Barry Allen in season 3:

“He’s a forensic expert, so he treads on the toes of much of what Barry is good at. Hence they have a slightly abrasive relationship at first… He’s not familiar with me, but I’m familiar with him, so it’s an odd dynamic. It seems like a love/hate thing at first.”

We will get a few new speedsters joining The Flash in season 3 as well. We have already seen that Kid Flash will be making his presence known, but according to the Twitter account of  Canadagraphs, Violett Beane will show up as Jesse Quick. Beane played Harrison Wells daughter, Jesse Wells, on Earth 2. The last we saw of them, they returned to Earth 2 for good, but with all the changes that Barry has made to the timeline it seems they are back.

The Flash returns to television on Tuesday, October 4th, when season 3 officially kicks off.
