Where is Ridley Scott taking the Alien franchise next? No one can be too sure, but he does have a plan. Was Alien: Covenant good? Meh. It really makes Prometheus look like a masterpiece. According to writer/producer Damon Lindelof (Prometheus), Scott has a big plan, and the next Alien film could take us to Paradise.
Lindelof wrote Prometheus, but wasn’t on board for the sequel Alien: Covenant. He has seen Covenant, and says that according to talks he and Scott had about the story, the Engineers planet in AC was not really their home world. he seems to think that Scott’s idea of their home planet was different from the planet that David wiped out.
Where will the franchise take us next? Lindelof spoke with Collider about the direction the next film will take, and were the story could take us next:
“I think that one of the conversations that we had at the end of Prometheus is, Shaw and David have basically locked in on the coordinates of the planet where the Engineers came from. What does that place look like? Ridley called it Paradise. What happens when they land on that planet? It doesn’t feel like they’ve gotten there yet in Covenant.
Covenant felt like it maybe was a detour prior to them arriving at the place of origin so I don’t want to spoil any place that he might still be wanting to go, but the conversations that he and I had about where the story goes next were largely about the place where the Engineers were from and less the events of Covenant.”
Alien: Covenant is far from a box office hit, which consequently has some questioning whether Ridley Scott should remain at the helm for future films. It raises the question whether Neill Blomkamp should keep pushing to make his Alien movie after all, despite recent reports that the project is dead.
