One big change from the original tale is that Chucky is not possessed by the soul of a serial killer anymore. Rather, the doll’s programmable code is hacked by a disgruntled ex-employee of the toy company. The hack gives Chucky freedom from restraint in learning and violence.

This new Chucky doll is very modern, with Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities allowing him to control smart devices and use them for his own devious schemes.

The reboot is racking up a number of controversial situations. The film decidede to move forward without the blessing and involvement of original creator Don Mancini. Mancini is already working on his spin-off television show Child’s Play: The Television Series.

Mark Hamill (Star Wars) lends his vocal talent to Chucky, and the film stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman.
