We all cheered when Spider-Man made his Marvel début in Captain America: Civil War. With Spidey’s first stand alone film set in the Marvel universe (Spider-man: Homecoming) on the horizon, people are anxious to grab up any bit of information about the film they can find out. Those of you hunter-gatherers out there, Tom Holland has a treat or two for you.
According to Holland, the Spider-Man suit is ‘not the greatest thing’. It seems as though Spider-Man’s new digs are not that comfortable. Is this something that is a comfort issue, or is it that your junk is out there for the world to see? Don’t misunderstand him though, he is grateful to play Marvel’s Spidey, in an interview with Variety:
“The suit’s not the greatest thing, but sometimes when it’s uncomfortable, you just have to remind yourself of the long list of actors that would love to be in that suit and you just go, ‘do you know what, f**k it. I’m the luckiest kid alive,’” Holland said at Saturday’s New York Film Festival première of The Lost City of Z. “‘I deserve to be here and I’m going to give it my best.’”
Holland goes on to say that although he has a stuntman available to him, he chooses to do as many stunts as he can for the film:
“I did as many [of the stunts] as I could, but there are some things legally that I couldn’t do,” said Holland. “There were stunt doubles who were all very, very talented guys who really supported me throughout the process. Whenever there was a stunt that I didn’t necessarily feel comfortable about, they would step in and show my how to do it, and coach me through the process.”
There is a bigger question in everyone’s minds. We know that Spider-Man: Homecoming is coming, but could we see the web-slinger play a role in Avengers: Infinity War? Fans are hoping that Infinity War follows the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, which includes practically everyone in the Marvel comic universe. I doubt that the film will do this, because although Marvel does use titles from comic runs in their films, they rarely follow those storylines. Infinity War will most likely not have the Earthbound heroes team-up with the Cosmic heroes, but we could see them all play a role in fighting Thanos as he gathers Infinity Stones.
Holland briefly addressed he place in Infinity War, albeit a very short response about it:
“It’s all up in the air, I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear about what that deal is.”
I am sure that Marvel isn’t splitting huge profits with Sony to have Spider-Man in just a few films. They will inevitably find a way to shoehorn him in when they can. Spidey does have a large role to play in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, so anything is possible with Infinity War.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts, and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
