‘Shazam!’ Suit and Look Still Changing and Evolving Daily

The very first set images for Shazam! had fans nervous. The color scheme for the suit was too bright, and the padding just looked off. Fans wondered if the property might end up being a comedy. When the comic-con trailer hit the internet this summer, all fears subsided.

The Shazam! trailer is great and featured a suit with a muted color palate. Check that trailer out below:

Some keen observers noticed that from the time of the first images of the suit hitting the net, small tweaks and changes are being made. Not only are the colors being muted more, but additional shading is popping up as well. Recently, a fan asked director David F. Sandberg on Reddit about these changes.

According to Sandberg:

“Making suits is hard. Like painting a room you can look at little swatches all day but you won’t really see the effect until it’s done. The color of the finished suit didn’t look quite as expected in some lights (particularly daylight) which is on me since I decided to change fabric very late in prep and there wasn’t time for as many tests. I figured we’d just have to tweak it in post. The first image released though unfortunately didn’t have any post production done to it.

That was right as we were putting the trailer together. I figured since that image was out there perhaps we shouldn’t stray too far from it in the trailer. Might be confusing. This image [the one on the right in the shot above] is closer to what I’m going for, but it’s all still a work in progress and we’ll see where we end up. No images (or the trailer) have the finished bolt effect either (it’s not going to be an extreme effect or anything but it’s not just a simple glow).”

Post-production Softwares allow for dramatic changes and manipulation to happen after shooting. This allows directors to tweak their films all the way until the end. A new trailer for Shazam! should hit before the end of the year, and should have additional tweaks as well. The newest image of the suit appears on the newest cover of Preview Magazine.

What the final look will be is anyone’s guess at the moment.
