Jason Momoa Talks Tone and Direction of DC’s ‘Aquaman’.

We haven’t seen much of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman except for a quick moment in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and in a couple of trailers for the upcoming Justice League film. We will get a healthy helping of Momoa’s Aquaman this November, when Justice League hits theaters. Just to reassure fans about the inaugural run for the King of Atlantis, Momoa spills a little about the direction of the stand-alone Aquaman movie, and what we can expect to see from the character.

In an interview with GQ, Momoa says that the character will be dealing with the problems of a young King-to-be and how he will deal with the rejection from not only land-lovers, but from Atlanteans as well:

“We’ve never really seen anything from this guy before, so it’s fun to have a level playing field. There aren’t like four Aquamans before me. I get to set the tone for it.

The guy was never really accepted on land, and he was never really accepted in Atlantis. He’s a half-breed. But he’s the best of both worlds. He just doesn’t know how to handle his powers.

So it’s kind of a coming of age for a young man to a man, or a man to a king. He’s lost a lot of things and he’s got to cope. He’s an outsider.”

Momoa’s Aquaman looks to be a bit snarkier than we have seen him in the comics and in animations. He will be quick-witted and looking for adventure. It is a welcomed change for a character who has had a less-than-stellar reputation in the past few decades. Aquaman is directed by James Wan, and stars Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Temuera Morrison, and Patrick Wilson.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
