Where Mark Hamill Thought Luke Would Appear in ‘TFA’

If you know anything about Mark Hamill, then you know that he is a bigger geek than any one of us. As he heard the news that The Force Awakens filming drew close, his excitement built to find out how Luke Skywalker would return. As Hamill got the script, he couldn’t wait, and had to dig right in.

He read through the entire script, and was really surprised to see that he wasn’t in the film until the end. During Hamill’s panel at the Star Wars Celebration Europe, he said that while reading the script, he kept guessing where Luke Skywalker will début. You’ve had plenty of time to see the film, so this should be no big surprise, but Luke shows up at the end of the film. He had a really good guess as to where Luke would make his big screen return.

“Where I thought I came in, I thought I came in when the lightsaber flies off [in the snow],” according to Hamill. When Hamill gets through the scene, his reaction is priceless“What? Rey caught it? She hasn’t even finished her training!”

Hamill says that Luke didn’t finish his training either, and chose to save his friends. This is the very thing that Rey did. Hamill confirmed that he recorded dialog for Star Wars Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, this past Thursday. He goes on to say, “There’s dialogue in there that I can see on a t-shirt, Rian Johnson is amazing. Forget ‘May the Force be with you.'”

Hamill adds in one tidbit that answers a question that some people have about The Force Awakens. He was asked if Luke Skywalker is standing by a tombstone in TFA, he said, “I don’t know, it looked like a rock to me.” It seems like this is one rumor that is now debunked.
