4. Peeping Tom(1960)
Psycho was not the greatest horror film of the 1960s. That honor belongs to Michael Powell’s brilliant film, Peeping Tom, which poked several of the same taboos as Psycho.
The film’s plot goes like this –
“The film revolves around a serial killer who murders women while using a portable film camera to record their dying expressions of terror.
Its title derives from the slang expression ‘Peeping Tom‘, which describes a voyeur.”
Carl Boehm starred as Mark, a wannabe film-maker with a twist.
Peeping Tom did everything Psycho attempted to do and then some. With its use of POV hand held camera and moody lighting, Powell’s film would inspire Italian Giallo films in the near future.
