The MCU is Planning a ‘Blade’ Movie? No, According to Kevin Feige

There was an interesting tidbit of information that came out of the New York City Comic Con the other day about the Blade franchise. The other day Kate Beckinsale stated that the producers of Underworld tried to set up a potential crossover with Marvel’s Blade. It was shot down, because Marvel wanted to do something themselves with the franchise. This has led to amazing speculation all over the internet about a potential Marvel secret film.

So, could we see a Blade film soon? According to Kevin Feige, although talks would show otherwise, Marvel has no plans for a Blade return:

They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with Blade at some point.’ That’s still the answer. We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D. that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.

Feige does confirm that the talks did happen about a crossover with the Underworld franchise, but he says that Marvel has their own plans for Blade. In what capacity we will see him return is anyones guess, but potentially having Blade return to the big screen could be great. I am certain that introducing vampires into the MCU would be a stretch, but a television show would be a viable option.

Kevin Feige has yet to show any chink in his armor, or issues with Marvel’s overall big plans. I think it is safe to say that they know what they are doing.
