The Amityville Horror is based on the apparent real-life haunting against the Lutz family in the 70s. It’s Directed by Stuart Rosenberg and stars James Brolin and Margot Kidder.
Unfortunately, even Lois Lane herself (Kidder) can’t save this uneven movie. There are many threads woven during its near 2-hour runtime yet once it’s over with there are still questions aplenty.
It recklessly spends at least an hour-and-a-half building up to its conclusion only to be anti-climactic. When George Lutz (Brolin) is taken over by the Demons, he tries to kill his wife’s kids. However, this doesn’t last long and the family escapes the house by driving away.
There’s no fight against the Demons, nor does the Priest whose subplot was followed throughout come into play. There are subplots all over the movie yet none connect by the end.
The Amityville Horror is definitely one I won’t be watching again, and if I do it’ll be the remake or the sequels to see what they’re like.
