Palmiotti and Conner Return to Harley Quinn With ‘Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey’

Early next year DC’s Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) releases in theatres worldwide. The story sees Harley Quinn splitting up from The Joker and teaming with a group of heroes to save a child from Black Mask.

The newly released trailer shows the movie takes cues from the Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner run on Harley Quinn. Together they covered at least 100 issues of the character, including specials.

Since 2013 the pair ran a solo Harley Quinn series and a spin-off. It revolved around Harley’s Gang of Harleys, a crimefighting team Harley held auditions for.

Both series see Harley breaking out on her own to become a landlady in Coney Island. She also joins a roller derby team and makes a new group of friends.

To coincide with the release of the Birds of Prey movie, DC has announced Palmiotti and Conner are returning to Harley’s world.

They are writing a four-issue miniseries that puts Harley Quinn in the crosshairs of assassins from her past due to a bounty placed on her head.

The official press release states:

With Harley finally done with The Joker, she’s moving forward with her life (as only she can) until she’s beset by a rogue’s gallery of Gotham City’s worst villains, the target of a $10,000,000 bounty placed on her head by the Clown Prince of Crime. It will take the help of Black Canary, Cassandra Cain (a.k.a. Batgirl), Renee Montoya, and the Huntress to help Harley and get to the bottom of why The Joker has turned Gotham’s worst loose on her.

The exact date of the miniseries release is unknown but it will be February 2020. Individual issues of the 32-page, four-issue run will sell for $5.99 and carries the Black Label descriptor.

This means the miniseries is appropriate for readers over 17. It follows in the footsteps of Batman: White Knight and Harleen (a new version of Harley’s origin).

Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey comes to retailers in February, 2020.
