Jeremy Irons didn’t have a large part to play in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the little we saw him in was great. He nailed the role of Alfred Pennyworth perfectly. We now know that Irons will return as Alfred in the upcoming Justice League film, and then again in the stand-alone Batman film. In a recent interview with Variety, Irons talks about his appearance in the upcoming DC film Justice League, and talks the stand-alone Ben Affleck-directed Batman movie:

“Similar, but then, of course, Ben’s going to make a Batman film next summer. He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that. In the Justice League, we have seven major lead characters and I’m the butler to one of them. It’s clear I will not be dominating that film.”

Irons all but confirms that the Ben Affleck Batman solo movie will start production mid-year next year. Irons also took a minute to talk about all the negative feedback that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received when it hit theaters in March:

“I was very pleased by the numbers. Zack seems to get a hard time from the press, which is strange. I don’t know if it has to do with the sort of secrecy that surrounds the making of it all. But the audience liked it, which in the end is all that matters.”

Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, and Ezra Miller. The heroes will will unite to take on Steppenwolf, a lieutenant in Darksied’s army, and herald for the real threat to Earth.
