Will Ferrell Shoots Down Any ‘Step Brothers 2’ Rumors

Although it wasn’t as big as some of Will Ferrell’s other films, Step Brothers has gained a cult following of sorts because of the streaming revolution. It has a very loyal following that wants a sequel. Will Ferrell has a bit of bad news for fans who would like to see a sequel tot he film happen.

Ferrell tells Rolling Stone that it doesn’t matter how much fans want a sequel, it will not ever happen:

“You have to resist the temptation. It’s just tough because the things everyone wants you to do sequels of are special because there’s not a sequel of it. I guess we’ll see, but as of now there are no plans. We just don’t want to be doing sequels of everything.”

Ferrell is not opposed to doing sequels, with some of his recent films being Zoolander 2 and Anchorman 2. Ferrell fears that by making sequels you risk ruining the original. He recently experienced this when Zoolander 2 bombed at the box office, while Anchorman 2 is considered by some to be better than the original film:

“I think we personally feel great about what we did with ‘Anchorman 2,’ and I think there are actually some people who like it more than the original. But then you always get that little bit of people saying, ‘Awww, why’d they have to do that?’”

Ferrell has lost some of his momentum in the last few years, and is on the lookout for his next big franchise. There is no need to worry though, Ferrell and John C. Reilly are currently filming Holmes and Watson, a comical take on the famous Scotland Yard detectives. It is a film that is sure to have audiences rolling in their seats when it hit theaters.

Holmes and Watson is set for a 2018 theatrical release.
