Get your pitchforks ready. Netflix just landed a deal that will turn The Witcher game series into a Netflix drama. Platige Image S.A. will bring the show to life, and the series will stay true to the source material. Fans of the game series will need to know that this show will follow the books, not the games based on the books.

The Witcher series is based on the novels written by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Sapkowski, who will serve as a creative consultant for the series, made this official release:

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Sean Daniels (The Mummy films) and Jason Brown (The Expanse) will serve as executive producers on the show. Netflix has not stated if the show will be live-action, CG, or animated, or any combination of the three. Platige Image S.A. did the cinematic on The Witcher games, which were directed by Tomasz Bagiński, and Bagiński will serve as one of the directors on the show as well.

The game is centered around Geralt of Rivia, who is found unconscious and suffering from amnesia at the beginning of the game. He gradually learns that he was a renowned witcher, and that he has friends and enemies almost everywhere (who do not suffer from amnesia…). Through the player’s actions, he will redefine those relationships and choose his path in the political intrigue that surrounds him.

The only request I have is that Geralt has the same dry humor that he displays in the games. It is one of those aspects that always makes me laugh a little, deep inside where it counts.

Netflix has not set a release date for The Witcher.
