For the better part of the last decade, an interesting fan theory says that the Peter Parker appeared in Iron Man 2. If you were one of those that believed this could happen, then you would be right, it has just been confirmed. The first official appearance of Peter Parker in the MCU is in Iron Man 2.
The actual moment that the theory is speaking of, is when Hammer Industries drone are destroying the Stark Expo.The little boy who stands up to them and tries to shoot them with his imaginary gauntlets, is now confirmed to be Peter Parker. According to a statement by Tom Holland to the Huffington Post: “It is Peter Parker.”

In the scene, the child’s face is never revealed. Although this is a bit of a stretch, it will be moments like this that give Marvel a lot of wiggle room. This may be an approach that Marvel takes in the future, giving their newer characters a bigger presence. It is believable that Peter Parker went to the Stark Expo, because he is into science and technology, he is a fan of Iron Man, and the Expo was held in Queens.
Holland went on to say,:
“I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
Peter Parker was in New York during the Battle of New York in Avengers. This isn’t something that is addressed in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Director Jon Watts was asked if this battle impacted Parker:
“You have to think about two really big events. The one is seeing Tony Stark on TV, reveal to the world that he’s Iron Man. That would be so dramatic. Then, yes, the events at the end of Avengers would be a big deal to a little kid. And I think that might be something that would be worth exploring.”
IO9 asked Jon Watts if it could be possible that Uncle Ben died during the Battle as well, and he said, “Oh, that’s interesting.”
UPDATE: Tom Holland says that although Kevin Feige didn’t confirm that the child is indeed Peter Parker, Holland made sure it is actually a thing. Here is what Holland said when asked to clarify his statements:
It’s funny, I literally had a conversation with Kevin like 20 minutes before [The Huffington Post] interview and he didn’t confirm it, I took it upon myself just because I thought it would be a good story and it’s exploded.
Although Holland didn’t get the official ok, it seems that this may be the beginning stages of something big. Should Marvel run with the idea, we could see future confirmations of other unintentional cameos.
