New ‘Black Panther’ Featurette Focuses on Killmonger Suit

Marvel’s Black Panther takes viewers to the world of Wakanda. This new country is a fascinating new social-political study for black culture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is a world fleshed out in wonderful detail, and brings a whole new color palette to the MCU. Now, a new featurette focuses on Wakanda’s lost son, Killmonger.

Check out the featurette below, that breaks down the suit that Killmonger dons in Black Panther:

The featurette comes in the promotional campaign for the release of the film in Asian Markets. Ruth E. Carter (Selma, Roots), Oscar-nominated costume designer, talks about the troubles with creating not only T’Challa’s suit, but one for Killmonger that looked similar but still stands out. The finished idea looks great, and the gold suit Killmonger wears in the film does looks similar, yet unique.

Cater goes on to say that Killmonger will be a fan-favorite. It is not only his design that makes him an appealing villain, but how he has a motivation that he believes in. It’s compelling to see that Marvel is learning that one of its biggest flaws has been in its forgettable villains. It appears that Black Panther is the first step to solving this issue.

Black Panther just passed $756 million heading into its third weekend at the box office. This puts the film just past DC’s Wonder Woman. With this much momentum, how long will Black Panther sit on top of the box office throne?

Marvel has a busy slate this year, with two more films yet to hit theaters: Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Can Marvel strike gold twice in the same year?
