Ridley Scott, the legendary filmmaker behind the original Alien (1979), played a pivotal role in shaping the upcoming film Alien: Romulus.

As a producer, Scott’s involvement has fueled anticipation and speculation about how this new installment will expand the iconic Alien franchise.

His return signals a continued dedication to exploring the universe he first introduced over four decades ago. Alien: Romulus is directed by Fede Álvarez, known for his work on Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe (2016).

With Scott’s guidance, Álvarez aims to infuse the film with a fresh perspective while staying true to the elements that made the original Alien a cinematic masterpiece—namely, its tense atmosphere, compelling characters, and the terrifying Xenomorphs.

Scott’s presence as a producer ensures that the film will maintain the thematic and visual consistency that fans expect from the franchise. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Ridley Scott Spoke about his involvement.

According to Scott, the first draft came in long. He stepped in to collaborate in tightening up the final draft:

“Fede is a surge of energy, and I had to step back and let him do it … Fede had a blueprint firm in his mind, and his script was pretty clear. It was also long, but the screenplay is always long. And so we got into that a little bit.”

Scott went on to say that Alvarez would contact him throughout development. Rest assured, he didn’t tinker with the script much as he hates backseat filmmakers:

“It is hard work with anybody and their mother giving you advice — the last thing you want at a certain point is advice. I do not need advice. If I fall on my own sword and therefore lie bleeding, I say, ‘It was my fault.’

I hope Fede’s got another one up his sleeve because I think this is going to do really well. He’s got a streak of brilliance.”

The film’s gaining traction with glowing early reviews. Alien: Romulus could grab a big opening weekend. Scott’s influence on the Alien series is undeniable, having directed both the original film and its prequels, Prometheus(2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017).

His deep understanding of the Alien mythos and his ability to blend science fiction with horror has been crucial to the series’ enduring popularity.

With Alien: Romulus, Alvarez and Scott help bridge the gap between the newer prequels and the classic films. Involvement from a visionary like Ridley Scott adds significant weight to Alien: Romulus.

Alien: Romulus hits theaters this coming Friday.
