Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered one of the largest opening weekends in Hollywood history. The Marvel and Sony production earned an estimated $927 million worldwide during its global debut. That total gives the movie the second-largest worldwide opening ever, behind only Avengers: Endgame.
The movie earned approximately $355 million across the United States and Canada. International markets contributed another $572 million, including an impressive $121 million from China. The enormous start gives Brand New Day the biggest box-office opening of 2026.
‘Brand New Day’ nearly defeats ‘Avengers: Endgame’
The movie came remarkably close to breaking the domestic opening-weekend record. Avengers: Endgame earned $357 million in 2019, setting a record that remains unbeaten. Brand New Day finished only $2 million behind that historic total.
However, the new movie still delivered the biggest domestic opening in Sony Pictures history. It also easily surpassed the previous record held by Spider-Man: No Way Home. That movie earned $260 million domestically during its opening weekend in 2021.
Brand New Day also recorded the largest domestic opening day ever. The movie collected approximately $168 million on Friday, including $72 million from preview screenings. Those previews surpassed the $60 million record previously held by Avengers: Endgame.

Around 24.1 million people reportedly watched the movie across North America during its opening weekend. Male viewers represented approximately 61 percent of the audience. More than half of all ticket buyers were also younger than 25.
International audiences returned for Spider-Man
International audiences played an equally important role in the movie’s record-breaking debut. Brand New Day earned $572 million outside the United States and Canada. China led those markets with an estimated $121 million.
That Chinese performance carries particular importance for Marvel and Sony. Recent superhero movies have struggled to rebuild the franchise’s former popularity within the country. Brand New Day proved that Spider-Man can still attract an enormous international audience.

The global numbers become even more impressive when considering the movie’s limited access to premium screens. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued occupying many IMAX locations during the weekend. Spider-Man still delivered the year’s biggest opening without controlling every premium auditorium.
Its $927 million total ranks behind the $1.22 billion global launch of Avengers: Endgame. However, it comfortably surpasses the previous $640 million second-place total held by Avengers: Infinity War.
Strong reviews helped create a massive opening
Advance ticket sales already suggested that Brand New Day would dominate the weekend. However, positive reviews and strong audience reactions helped the movie exceed those expectations. The film received an “A” CinemaScore and earned strong scores across major review platforms.

Critics praised the movie’s emotional focus and return to a more grounded New York setting. Audiences also responded positively to Tom Holland’s latest performance as Peter Parker. The film explores his isolated life after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Destin Daniel Cretton directed the movie after previously leading Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. His approach combines large-scale action with Peter Parker’s personal struggles. That balance appears to have connected with both critics and general audiences.
The movie also benefits from several popular returning and newly introduced characters. Zendaya returns as MJ, while Jacob Batalon again portrays Ned Leeds. Jon Bernthal joins the movie as Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher.

Tom Holland remains one of Marvel’s biggest stars
Brand New Day marks Holland’s fourth solo movie as Spider-Man. It also confirms that his version of Peter Parker remains one of Marvel’s strongest theatrical attractions. The actor continues drawing audiences despite growing concerns about superhero fatigue.
The movie’s success comes after several comic-book projects struggled to meet financial expectations. Recent disappointments raised questions about the continued strength of Marvel and DC properties. However, Spider-Man appears largely unaffected by that wider decline.
Holland and Zendaya also appeared together in Nolan’s The Odyssey. That movie remained second at the domestic box office with approximately $51 million during its third weekend. Their presence in two of the summer’s biggest releases demonstrates their growing commercial influence.
Sony also benefits significantly from Spider-Man’s continued success. The studio controls the character’s theatrical film rights through its longstanding agreement with Marvel. Marvel remains involved creatively while benefiting from merchandise and the movie’s larger MCU connections.

Spider-Man gives the 2026 box office a major boost
The historic opening arrives during a strong summer for movie theaters. Releases including The Odyssey, Toy Story 5, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have attracted large audiences. Brand New Day now stands above every other 2026 release.
The opening also pushes the complete Spider-Man movie franchise closer to $10 billion in worldwide ticket sales. That number includes several versions of the character and Sony’s animated productions. Few theatrical franchises have demonstrated that level of lasting popularity.
The movie’s second weekend will provide the next major test. Strong reviews and audience reactions could help it avoid a steep decline. Its enormous opening has already placed several box-office milestones within reach.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day did more than win the weekend. It nearly defeated an untouchable Marvel record while delivering Sony’s biggest opening ever. Peter Parker has once again proven that audiences remain ready to follow Spider-Man into theaters.
