Legendary Pictures Announces ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ Live-Action Film

Legendary Pictures is bringing a live-action Mobile Suit Gundam film to theaters. MSG is perhaps one of the biggest giant robot franchises in history. This will be the first time that the franchise hits the big screen if you ignore the cameo appearance of the Mech in Ready Player One.

Legendary made the announcement about the collaboration with Sunrise at Anime Expo 2018. There isn’t much in the way of details about the project, including anything regarding the plot. The press release does mention a brief synopsis of Gundam and its setting will be in the Universal Century, a main timeline of the franchise.

Check out the official press release for the Mobile Suit Gundam movie below:

The original Gundam series is set in the Universal Century. An era in which humanity’s growing population has led people to emigrate to space colonies. Eventually, the people living in the colonies seek their autonomy. They launch a war of independence against the people living on Earth. Through the tragedies and discord arising from this human conflict, not only the maturation of the main character, but also the intentions of enemies and the surrounding people are sensitively depicted.

Mobile Suit Gundam is not new to movie talks. Legendary is responsible for bringing Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim franchise to theaters. They can handle a big-budget robot film, and do it well. This is a good sign, and the perfect studio to bring Mobile Suit Gundam to theaters.
