‘Taboo’ to Be Something New and Unlike Anything You Have Ever Seen

Tom Hardy, FX

The trailer has finally hit for the new upcoming FX series Taboo, starring Tom Hardy. The series will be the third time that director Steven Knight and actor Tom Hardy. They worked together on LockePeaky Blinders, and now on Taboo. Knight has stated that this show will be different, and that there hasn’t been anything like it before.

Here is the plot rundown for the series:

Set in 1813, “Taboo” is based on an original story by Tom Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy. In Taboo, Hardy plays the lead role of “James Keziah Delaney,” a rogue adventurer who returns from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds to seek vengeance after the death of his father. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a very dangerous game.

In an interview with Slashfilm, Knight says:

“Wait until you see it. I don’t think anything has ever been like it. Both directors, Kristoffer [Nyholm] and Anders [Engström], were brilliant. It’s going to be interesting.”

He goes on to also say that Hardy’s Delaney is seriously flawed, which will allow him to go to dark places:

“If you do anything with a really brilliant actor, like him, you know what he’s capable of, and you know where there’s no point in going in certain directions. With Taboo, knowing he was there and had this great cast around him, you could really, with the dialogue… It’s really enjoyable to have turn of phrase you wouldn’t have anyone else say. There can be so much going on inside his head that you know that’s going to be reflected on the screen. I think people are going to love it.”

Taboo is set to première early next year.
