Recently Robert Downey Jr. let a bombshell out on the public: we are getting another Sherlock Holmes movie. Not only that but the film will be re-teaming Downey Jr. with Jude Law and Guy Ritchie, but the timeframe for this film is not a long-term one, it could begin shooting as soon as this Fall. James Coyne is penning a new script for the film, so it is now the time to start getting excited. The first Sherlock Holmes was amazing, and although the second film wasn’t so great, it still made a whole big bunch of money, $545 Million dollars worth.
Out doing promotion for his upcoming film, The Nice Guys, producer Joel Silver tells Collider that the film is coming, but the trick will be scheduling the shooting and balancing everyone’s schedules:
“It looks like it could happen this fall. Downey said he wants to do it. He’s gotta launch into another Avengers movie, right after the New Year, so we’re trying to get it done. We have a script that we like. Jude [Law] is available and Downey is available, and we’re hoping we can get it done. If it works, great. If not, we’ll do it another time. But, it looks like it could happen now.”
Silver goes on to say that this film is far from he last:
“I hope [it’s not the last one]. I don’t think so. How many Bond films have they made? As long as there’s a character, we can work with it. It’s not an end story. We can keep going, as long as people want to do it. It’s [the actor’s] call. They have to say, ‘Okay, I’m ready to go.’ I read about them making another Bad Boys. If they want to do it, then you try to get it done.”
Sherlock Holmes 3 is on track for a 2017 release if the ball gets rolling soon. The first Sherlock Holmes film was well received with critics. The second film fell short, hopefully the third film will go back to the formula they used in the first one.
