Is Daniel Craig Giving Up on ‘James Bond 007’?

'Casino Royale', Columbia Pictures

It is a phrase that has been spoken for months, but if the rumors are true, Daniel Craig may finally be done playing James Bond. The funny thing is that Craig has been extremely vocal about, and now (if the first reports can be believed) he may finally be hanging up his Walther PPK.

Now, don’t start jumping to conclusions, these reports are from an unconfirmed source, the British tabloid The Daily MailAccording to the Mail, an unconfirmed source reports that Craig has turned down a £68 million deal for two more Bond films.  The BBC  quickly followed up with  a report that says that Craig has yet to make a final decision, but with potential Bond castings rumors popping up all over the internet there is no doubt that it has validity.

Craig has taken every opportunity in the past during press interviews for SPECTRE to voice his opinions on reprising the role. He has even said that there is no amount of money that could be offered to him, he does care about being Bond again. This is the mark of a tired actor. It is one thing to not want to be in sequels, or to need to take a break, but it sounds like Craig is just not happy with his whole experience as the British secret agent. Here is a lovely quote from one of Craig’s interviews:

Look, I don’t give a fuck. Good luck to them! All I care about is that if I stop doing these things we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better. Make it better, that’s all.

So who is on the list of potential Bond replacements? Aidan Turner (The Hobbit), Tom Hardy (Mad Max), Idris Elba (Pacific Rim), and everyone’s favorite Loki, Tom Hiddleston (Avengers, Thor). With big names fighting for the role, it is only a matter of time before we hear whether Craig will quit and another will take the mantle.
