‘Ant-Man & The Wasp’ is Set to be a Team-Up Movie

Ant-Man, Marvel

Director Peyton Reed completed Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man movie with style. Now, he tells us that Ant-Man & The Wasp will not just be another Ant-Man movie, but it will feature both heroes equally. He says that Hope Van Dyne’s Wasp will not longer be standing in the shadows of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, but she share in the spotlight.

Where will we find Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) in Ant-Man & The Wasp? According to Reed, after the events of Captain America: Civil War Lang is really in hot water with the law:

Well he’s a fugitive in most of the first Ant-Man movie. He’s just a bigger fugitive now. I think that’s one of the fun things and challenges about the Marvel movies for us, for the directors and for the writers, is you do have to sort of consider what happened in the previous movies in terms of your jumping-off point for those characters. It’s something we talked a lot about early on and we definitely have stuff figured out, so there will be some big leaps forward.

Reed went on to say that this is not just another Ant-Man movie. Hope Van Dyne’s Wasp will be taking the stage with Lang, and will share in the hero spotlight:

It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.

Could We See Other Marvel Heroes in ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp’?

Does this mean that the film will be as big as Civil War? Probably not, but the potential for heroes to appear in the film is there. Reed’s words about how this will be a team-up movie apply more to Ant-Man & The Wasp partnering up, rather than three or four heroes shown up. I wouldn’t get too discouraged yet, and after Scott Lang’s ‘giant’ stunt in the airport battle, it is possible that he turned a few heads.
