Filming on the new DCEU movie Batgirl is set to continue this week in Glasgow, Scotland. New set photos have been revealed, confirming details about the film that were previously unknown.
Warner Brothers have chosen Glasgow as the primary location for Gotham in many of their upcoming releases, including The Batman, The Flash and now Batgirl.
The town is being dressed in festive decor, confirming the movie will take place at least partially around Christmas. Christmas lights and markets have been erected, and storefronts transformed into shops selling trees and ornaments.
The movie will debut later in 2022, and will be the first DC movie to go straight to HBO Max, Warner Brother’s own streaming service.
Plans for a Batgirl film have been ongoing for years in Hollywood. Joss Whedon famously left the project in 2018. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) are directing this film. Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) will pen the screenplay.
Leslie Grace (In the Heights) will don the famous cape and cowl in the title role. She was spotted earlier this week in the Scottish city, sporting the character’s famous red hair.
Also confirmed for the cast is Brendan Fraser as Firefly. JK Simmons reprises his role as Commissioner Gordon, Barbara’s father.
Earlier this week, Jacob Scipio, Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson and Ethan Kai joined the project in undisclosed roles.
Not too much else is known about Batgirl at this time, but be sure to check Popcorn Sushi regularly for more information as it drops.
