Marvel ‘X-Men’ Films Won’t Happen Until 2022

What kind of a timeline does Marvel Studios use? How long will fans have to wait to get a Marvel X-Men film? Now that franchises like Deadpool, X-Men, and The Fantastic Four are back with Marvel, how long until they begin incorporating the new characters?

In a new report from THR, integrating the slates from both Disney and 20st Century Fox is in its early stages. Producing deals on the franchises need to be dissolved, resolved, or untangled, and this includes Lauren Shuler Donner and possibly Simon Kinberg’s deals.

Marvel is keeping the movies slated for Phase 4 under tight wraps until Avengers: Endgame hits theaters. So, an early indication of a new X-Men movie is nowhere in sight.

Kevin Feige, “met with several members of the X-Men old guard in recent months”. Noah Hawley is one of these filmmakers. Hawley is penning a Doctor Doom film for Fox.

There are five blank spots on Marvel’s current release schedule. Does this mean Marvel has something up their sleeve? The films assumed to come in Marvel’s future (through 2021) are The Eternals, Black Widow, Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Doctor Strange 2, and Shang-Chi.

This means that Marvel won’t begin to introduce anything new until after this slate of films in 2022. The only way the studio would squeeze in anything would be if the film is basically ready to go.

Even at that, the studio would have to approve of the script and then find a way to weave in their callbacks and references to the greater universe. It is a big feat to pull off. This backs up an earlier statement made by Feige that fans won’t see the X-Men until Phase 5.
