Could a ‘Jason Goes to Hell’ or ‘Friday the 13th’ Spin-Off Be in the Works?

It’s been 25 years since Jason Goes to Hell graced movie screens. You would think that the title says it all, and the franchise is over. Friday the 13th is a franchise that brought fear to the big screens in the 80s and occupied many children’s darkest dreams. It was a franchise that made you think twice about summer camp. Director Adam Marcus has an idea for a spin-off that would shift the focus to the film’s bounty hunter Creighton Duke.

In the film, Duke was intent on finishing off Jason Vorhees for good after the supernatural monster killed his girlfriend at Camp Crystal Lake a few years earlier. Although Duke was able to send Jason to Hell, Vorhees killed him in the process. JGTH was the ninth film in the Friday the 13th franchise, but in a new interview, Marcus has an idea to keep the franchise alive.

Speaking with Cinema Toast Crunch, Marcus says that not only does he have an idea for the spin-off, but he wants production to start next year:

“I have a movie… you’re the first ones I’ve talked about this to… that is a completely Creighton Duke-inspired movie. We’re doing that next year. I can tell you that I’m talking with Steven Williams about this. I’m dead serious about this movie. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years. For me, that was the character that I gave a crap about. That’s the guy that I adore. And, I’m tellin’ ya, I have something up my sleeve that’s gonna knock people out.”

Friday the 13th as a franchise is in legal turmoil at the moment, so the spin-off would have to distance itself. It would also most-likely avoid any mention of Jason Vorhees in any capacity. This might be bad news for 80s horror fans who are clamoring for a return of the slasher film franchises that put horror on the Hollywood map.
