In a little over a week, the world will finally get to sit down and watch Suicide Squad. For the last year, rumors have flown around about casting roles, Who the main villain is, and most of all who Jared Leto’s Joker really is. Ever since the trailers for Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice showed us Jason Todd’s Robin costume memorialized in the Batcave, fans began to speculate that Jared Leto’s Joker may actually be a psychotic Jason Todd.
There are many reasons that this theory held relevance, and fans just found it hard to believe that Leto’s version of the Clown Prince is the actual Joker. Many would point to the damage on Todd’s Robin costume, and compare it to reveal images of Leto as Joker, matching up scars and Boy Wonder costume damage. There is no denying that Ayer’s vision of Joker is a little on the extreme side. With his young appearance, silver capped teeth, and a body covered in tattoo’s, fans are eager to find any reason to dismiss this new incarnation of Joker.
If you are a fan of this theory, I have disappoint you. In a recent interview with WSVN-TV, courtesy of THR, Suicide Squad director David Ayer shuts down the theory immediately when asked, saying:
“It ain’t the case. He’s not.”
Check out the entire interview below:
Jared Leto’s Joker is NOT Jason Todd. Leto being Todd as Mr. J would have made for an interesting change to DC canon, and sounded like it would have been accepted by most hardcore fans. I even believed that this theory was a possibility. Will the Joker end up being someone else from Batman lore? We will have to wait until Suicide Squad hit theaters on Aug 5.
Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Will Smith, Joel Kinnamen, and Cara Delevingne.
